One of the ways FACL BC wants to be of service to our members is by providing a monthly forum to those in our community to speak on a variety of topics relevant to this period of COVID-19. We’ll do this through a monthly 45 min. session hosted by a member from our membership committee.

We know that you are inundated with information and events at this time so we plan to keep this crisp and focused. Each month will cover a different topic and feature a special guest related to the topic.

You can choose to register and attend one or more sessions. All sessions run from 12:00 - 12:45pm (30 min. interview; 15 min. Q&A).

Session 1: Friday, March 5 – Job Hunting for Legal Professionals with Dave Namkung

Dave Namkung is a long-time FACL BC member (and former FACL BC President from 2016-2017) with extensive recruitment experience. Although many legal professionals mainly think of career options, networking and such when actively searching for work, this session will touch on the importance of career building between job hunts. We will also touch on advice regarding career planning, career building, and job hunting more generally.

Session 2: Friday, April 9 – Real Estate & Strata Considerations with Alex Chang

Alex Chang is an associate at Lesperance Mendes Lawyers. He maintains a litigation and administrative law practice focusing on strata governance, residential and commercial tenancies, air space parcels and construction deficiency litigation. In this Friday's with FACL session, our discussion with Alex will surround the topic of strata governance and real estate in times of COVID. We will also discuss advice and tips for navigating work from home.

Session 3: Friday, May 7 – Setting Up Your Own Practice with Sara Forte and Jim Wu

Sara Forte, the founder of Forte Law, and Jim Wu, a lawyer also at Forte Law, will talk about their experiences running their own employment law practices – what motivated them, what inspired Jim to wind up his practice (and join Sara’s) and what are the challenges and rewards of having ran and continuing to run a law practice.

Session 4: Friday, June 4 Financial Planning for Lawyers with Kelly Ho

We welcome you to join FACL BC and Kelly Ho, CFP, CCS, Certified Financial Planner and Certified Cash Flow Specialist from DLD Financial Group Ltd. to discuss common financial issues faced by lawyers at all stages of their careers and strategies one can employ to maximize their financial success. The goal of this event is to provide you with a foundational understanding of financial planning advice specifically for lawyers and to equip you to make the most out of each hard earned dollar.
